HERITAGE DAY AT MAKABONGWE – THURSDAY 19th September 2019

Hosted and organised by Teacher Mondli and Miss Mbatha – long term Teacher assistant

This can best be described as an EXPLOSION of colour at Makabongwe.

The Celebration started with all the children singing the National anthem followed by a children’s version of the Lord’s Prayer very ably led by Grade R Yellow Birds class.

Ms Mbatha then explained why we celebrate Heritage Day and Teacher Mondli translated this into isiZulu.

HERITAGE DAY is a South African public holiday celebrated on 24th September. On this day, South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their cultures and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions in the wider context of a nation that belongs to its entire people.

This was followed by each class presenting an item of song or dance or both which was followed by everyone singing and dancing and making a joyful, colourful noise.

The program ended with a very tasty lunch prepared BY Ms Thully and Ms Bongi – meaty bones and white, creamy samp.

I confess I joined the queue for more but was too late……

Jelly and ice cream finished off a perfect morning of celebration and fun.
