MORE CONGRATULATIONS AND CELEBRATIONS AT MAKABONGWE

Ms Portia Thiam joined us at the beginning of this year as Teacher Assistant for the Grade R Yellow Birds and Yellow Bees.

Portia had just completed a Diploma in Pre-School Grade R Teaching and Teacher Assistant for Grade 1,2 and 3.

At the end of last year, we were looking to appoint a Teacher Assistant for two Grade R classes.

We remembered this energetic, enthusiastic and lively young student from Embury who had come to Makabongwe to complete her practical training in 2016 in order to fulfil her Diploma requirements.

Her mentor teacher, Ms Ndlovu, reminded me about Portia who saw the advertisement on the notice board at Embury College.

We were delighted to appoint her onto our permanent staff this year.

Portia was born in Umlazi in Durban and matriculated in 2002.

Portia chose teaching as her vocation and profession because she felt the only people who had made a really positive difference to her life were her own teachers at school.

She chose pre-school education because she has an extravagant passion for children and finds that she can elate well to them.

We affirm this as the children of Makabongwe soon attached themselves to Portia with much enthusiasm.

Her fiancé, Peter, has been a loyal and steady supporter, helping her financially and encouraging her to complete her studies.

On the 22nd March 2018, Portia officially graduated. The ceremony was held at the Olive Convention Centre, North Beach, DURBAN.

We are very proud of Portia and glad she is a member of the Makabongwe team.
