If there was a word in the English dictionary to describe better than perfect, that is the word I would use
83 VERY excited Grade R learners boarded the bus heading for Laguna Pools and Beach.
It was a glorious, better than perfect Durban summer’s day
The children all looked very colourful in their swimming gear as well as the teachers with brightly coloured sarongs and summer hats.
The crystal blue pools were very inviting and within minutes of arriving, ALL 83 learners, teachers, assistant teachers and volunteers were in the water.
Some children were a little apprehensive; others had no problem heading straight for the slide, ducking their heads under water and showing off their new found swimming skills.
Every child got to swim in the pools and head down to the beach to splash in the waves.
Snack, juice, ice lollies and deliciously fresh hot dogs kept little tummies satisfied and ensured energy levels did not drop!
By the end of the day, the children were playing confidently in the water. Watching this develop during the course of the morning was very special.
We saw apprehension turn to sheer pleasure and a sense of achievement. In fact, I had to blow the whistle numerous times to get the children OUT of the water.
It was just too good and so much fun.
A group of happy, sun kissed Makabongwe staff and learners headed back to school after enjoying an absolutely better than perfect day at the beach.
I am sure you will agree when looking at the photos that this was indeed the case……
